Towards Women Empowerment

Towards Women Empowerment

We understand  that women and children are most vulnerable in the society. They need to be protected from the pawn of callous individuals in the society. In the light of this, we held a women’s empowerment programme aimed at enlightening women on self dependence, entrepreneurship and women trafficking.

The programme held in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State  Nigeria had in attendance eminent and resourceful women from within and outside the country. The targeted audience in attendance were widowed women from the Gideons Orphanage Homes, female students from the Moshood  Abiloa Polytechnic and housewives from different walks of life.

One of the guest speakers, a Nigerian-Lebanese, speaking during the interactive section  related the plight of domestic workers in Lebanon and the rigours they are subjected to. She stressed the need for women to be empowered and be professionals in their chosen career to resist the injustice  meted against  them home and abroad. Travelling overseas  without being a professional in any chosen field was discouraged. The women were made to realised that their success is not tied to any geographical area. What will determine their success  is their mentality, hard work and dedication coupled with resilience.

It is noteworthy to state here that many crave to go overseas without a clear aim and objective. It is these category of people that are exploited and trafficked by unscrupulous  agents and used as domestic  workers abroad. It was plainly highlighted at the programme that if one desires to travel overseas at all, one must go either as a student or a as worker with a valid work permit. Moreover, some  women were given substantial capital to establish their personal enterprise.

We will continue  to support the less privileged until we see Africa rid of all forms of injustice and inequality. Be a part of this today by becoming a donor or volunteer.
